Recording Demo Videos

In many cases, screenshots aren’t enough — especially when you want to show a workflow, simulation setup, or result evolution over time. Recording short demo videos helps communicate your process clearly and saves time during discussions.

On macOS

Use the built-in screen recorder with

CMD + Shift + 5

You can record the full screen or a selected portion. Enable the microphone if you want to add narration. The recording saves automatically to your desktop.

On Windows

Use OBS Studio, a free and powerful screen recording tool.

  • Download it from https://obsproject.com.
  • Choose Display Capture or Window Capture to record your screen.
  • You can add Audio Input Capture if you want to record your voice.
  • Start and stop recording using the controls at the bottom right.

Tips

  • Keep recordings short (1–3 minutes) and focused on the key steps.
  • Speak clearly if adding narration, or add short captions afterward.
  • Save videos with meaningful names like salome_mesh_demo.mp4 or fenics_postprocess_walkthrough.mp4.

Short, well-structured demo videos make it easy for others to understand your workflow and provide clear feedback during discussions.
