Co-Founder — Avkalan Labs
During my PhD at IIT Roorkee, I co-founded Avkalan Labs along with my colleagues with the vision of translating research ideas into practical healthcare technologies. Our work focused on combining sensing hardware, embedded systems, signal processing, and intelligent algorithms to develop solutions for real-world medical and biomechanical problems.
One of our major innovations was the development of an insole-based foot pressure active-monitoring system for diabetic foot ulcer prevention. We designed both the hardware and software ecosystem around the idea, including pressure-sensing insoles, embedded electronics, data acquisition systems, and analytical algorithms for monitoring plantar pressure distribution and identifying high-risk conditions associated with diabetic foot complications.
Our work resulted in a granted patent titled:
“An Insole-Based Foot Pressure Active-Monitoring System for Diabetic Foot Ulcer Prevention and a Method Thereof” — Granted on December 8, 2025.
At Avkalan Labs, I worked extensively on algorithm development, computational modeling, sensor integration, and software development for real-time monitoring and analysis. We built the complete technology stack around the concept — from prototyping hardware and embedded systems to designing analytical pipelines and user-facing software tools.
The startup was incubated at the TIDES Incubation Center at IIT Roorkee, where we received mentorship, infrastructure support, and opportunities to further develop the technology into a scalable product. Our idea was also recognized by the Government of India as one of the Top 30 innovative ideas selected for showcase at an industrial event in Finland, providing us with international exposure and validation for the work we were doing.
The experience was particularly exciting because it allowed us to work at the intersection of engineering, healthcare, computation, and product development. We were not only developing research ideas academically, but also transforming them into deployable technologies with practical societal impact.
Building Avkalan Labs taught me how to take ideas from first-principles research all the way to prototyping, intellectual property development, startup incubation, and integrated hardware-software product design.
